Allah’s Messenger was the kindest of men just as he excelled all others in courage and valor. He was so kindhearted that his eyes brimmed with tears at the slightest sign of inhumanity. Ibn `Abbas related that a man once threw a goat on its side and then started sharpening his knife. When the Prophet saw him he said, “Do you want to kill it twice? Why didn’t you sharpen the knife before throwing it on the ground?”

Muhammad was a perfect model of modesty and humbleness. He never spoke loudly or in an unseemly manner. In the market, he always passed by the people quietly with a smile. Whenever he heard anything undesirable in an assembly, he did not say anything out of respect for the people, but the color of his face showed his feelings and the Companions became cautious. `A'ishah said that she never saw Allah's Messenger laughing so immoderately that she could see his molar teeth, for he only used to smile.

There was a time in my youth,
When Islam was only a custom.
They said, “Say la ilaha illa-llah
And pray you’ll go to Heaven.”

Ah, how simple, no struggle in this.
Just a word, and simple act.
Thereafter, I’m absorbed in this world again
With my “assured” place in Paradise intact.

But this was not to be my fate
For Allah chose to guide my heart.
I learnt of a man who struggled so hard
When his mission was from the start.

Important figures and members of other religions at the time wanted him to impose rules that would benefit them. Although these people were of greater power and numbers, the Prophet was very careful about abiding by Allah's commandments and the Qur'an. Allah says,

The Prophet Muhammad is introduced in the Qur’an in these words:

[And We have not sent you forth but as a mercy to mankind.] (Al-Anbiyaa’: 107)

This shows that his distinctive quality was that he was a blessing incarnate in word and deed.

Throughout the period of his mission, Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) experienced all manners of difficulty. Deniers and polytheists from among his own people insulted him most terribly, even calling him a magician or a madman. Others wanted to kill him and even schemed to do so. Despite all that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) tried to teach people of all backgrounds and cultures about the Qur’an, and therefore about proper morality and good behavior.

Allah the Almighty has given the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) some rights over his nation because He chose him as a devout and beloved servant and entrusted him with the mission of conveying the message to the whole of mankind. Some of these rights of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) are:

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered this sermon on the 9 Dhul-Hijjah 10 a.h. in the valley of Mount `Arafat, during his final Hajj, known as the Farewell Hajj. The contents of the message were collected from different narrations, and there are other parts of it that are not mentioned here. After praising, and thanking Allah, he said:

The ongoing “Cartoon Crisis” raises several issues. One of the most important is the incumbency of seeing the ongoing crisis as an opportunity to educate people in the West about our blessed Prophet, . Along those lines, one of the greatest things we can do is teach about the exalted ethical standard introduced by our Prophet, . That ethical standard is the bedrock of his mission and message.
